Energy Management for Anxious Achievers: A Neuroscience-Based Approach

High-performers with anxiety or professionals with ADHD may tend to push harder, work longer, and expect more - sound familiar?

Yet, here’s the web many get caught in: You work harder, longer… but you don’t seem to be any farther ahead than others around you. Maybe you haven’t had a formal diagnosis, but you’ve had your suspicions. And after a long day, you feel exhausted. Plus, it feels like you’ve been going-going-going but haven’t actually been that productive. Talk about frustrating.

Positively Uplifting Stories | September 15, 2025

One Positive Action

Role Models

The people we look up to often reveal something important about ourselves. When you notice the qualities that draw you to someone, a mentor, friend, or public figure, it usually points to the values you hold inside. Paying attention to this can help you understand what matters most to you.

Think of one person you truly admire. It could be someone close to you or someone you only know from a distance. Consider what values they represent that inspire you. Maybe it's their kindness, their determination, or how they handle challenges. Whatever comes to mind, let it guide you toward understanding the principles you want to live by.

This reflection brings awareness. When you identify the values you admire in others, you create a mirror for yourself. It helps you see what you want to develop in your own life and provides direction for the choices you make. Instead of guessing at your values, you're recognizing the ones that already resonate within you.

Today, choose one role model and write down the values you see in them that inspire you. Keep that list in a notebook or on your phone. When you need direction or feel uncertain about a decision, let those values remind you of the kind of person you want to be. This simple exercise can become a compass for living more intentionally.
