Do You Take Things Personally? These 5 Mantras Can Help You Stop

Years ago, I was in a relationship where I tended to take things personally, many of which had absolutely nothing to do with me.

I didn't realize it at the time, but I was dealing with a lot of insecurity and emotional mayhem. I made plenty of things about me, and reacted from a space of woundedness, rather than a space of empowerment.

The good news is I've done a lot of inner healing work since then. I rarely deal with that insecurity anymore, which helps me take things much less personally. I also engage with some spiritual practices that help in this area, such as meditation.

When you think about "purpose," it can feel overwhelming, like something you're supposed to discover all at once. But purpose often hides in the small, everyday moments that make you feel energized and alive. Have you ever noticed how some activities leave you completely drained while others seem to refill your tank? Your body and mind are constantly giving you clues about what brings you fulfillment, but we usually rush past them without paying attention.

Today, I want you to become a detective of your own joy. Pay attention to your day and pick out just one activity that sparked energy or a sense of flow. It could be laughing with a friend, solving a problem at work, cooking dinner, or taking a quiet walk. That burst of energy you feel when you're helping someone, the way time disappears when you're working on something creative, or how recharged you feel after a meaningful conversation; these moments are breadcrumbs leading you toward what you're meant to do.

When you start collecting these little sparks over time, they begin to point toward your deeper sense of purpose. If you notice that connection, creativity, or learning consistently show up as energizers, that's valuable information. It tells you where to lean in and where your sense of meaning might already be growing. You stop running on empty and start showing up in life with more patience and energy because you're honoring what truly fuels you.

At the end of today, jot down one activity that made you feel most alive. Keep a running list for a week and see what themes begin to appear. Allow your joy to lead you in the direction of your true purpose.
