Your Brain on Instagram: Why Social Media Hijacks Your Happiness

You know how it goes… you open Instagram or TikTok for “just a minute,” and before long you’re knee-deep in someone else’s highlight reel.

Their vacation photos.

Their perfectly organized kitchen.

Their career wins.

And suddenly, you’re not just scrolling; you’re comparing.

It happens fast, doesn’t it? One second you’re fine, the next you’re wondering why your life doesn’t look as polished, successful, or exciting. The truth is, social media has a sneaky way of turning connection into competition.

And if we’re not careful, we can end up stuck in a cycle that drains our confidence and steals our joy…

Positively Uplifting Stories | October 6 2025

No matter how things may appear on the surface, never forget that kindness is still abundant in the world.

It thrives in everyday moments, such as in a smile from a stranger, in people showing up for one another, and in acts of help offered without expecting anything in return.

Letting our innate kindness flow is a choice we must make, even when the world feels disconnected.

“A little thought and a little kindness are often worth more than a great deal of money.” – John Ruskin

This week, we bring you stories that inspire us to tap into the true potential of kindness.

  • Communities come together to grow their own food in urban areas

  • A brother-sister duo inspires others

  • A bride's elderly landlord stepped up to support her on her special day

  • A miracle calf’s recovery highlights the impact of animal rescue

One Positive Action

See Them Clearly

It's easy to get caught up in our own days and forget that the people around us are changing too. They are learning, growing, and moving through their own challenges, just like we are. Taking time to notice that growth and acknowledge it can be a powerful way to nurture and grow in your connection to them.

Think about someone close to you; your partner, a friend, or a family member. Now think about who they were a year ago compared to who they are today. Have they shown more patience, worked toward a goal, or handled a hard season with grace?

The thing is, we get so used to the people around us that we stop seeing this growth. We see them as fixed, as the same person they've always been. But they're not. They're growing, changing, and becoming new versions of themselves. People often don't realize how much they've grown until someone else points it out.

When you share that acknowledgment, it will deepen and strengthen the connection between you. Your words can remind them that the work they're doing matters, and that someone they care about notices. You're telling them their efforts make a difference. That recognition strengthens trust and makes relationships feel more rooted.

Today, choose one person and reflect on how they've grown in the past year. Then, tell them. It can be a simple text, a conversation, or a small gesture that shows you see their progress. It doesn't have to be a big speech. You could say something like "I've noticed you've been standing up for yourself more lately. I'm really proud of you." Or you could show it through your actions. Support that new hobby they picked up. Give them space to be this newer version of themselves. Sometimes the most meaningful gift you can give is letting someone know you truly notice who they're becoming.
