Let Passion Be Your Guide - How Being Determined Can Get You What You Want
We all are born with certain gifts, talents, and passions, but it’s not always easy to discover what they are. Some people are fortunate. They know what they want to pursue career-wise at a young age and enjoy many years doing just that.
However, most people struggle with knowing what it is they’d truly love to do workwise or volunteer-wise.
I don't know if acting is what I want to do for the rest of my life, it's just what I've, you know, ended up doing when I was little, and I've kind of grown up with it. - Natalie Portman
If one of the most famous actresses in the world isn't sure - that should make us feel a little better if we don't either…
4 Ways to Stop Feeling Guilty About Your Guilty Pleasures
Before writing this article I decided to comb through the internet in search of what people felt guilty about enjoying – i.e. what was other people's “guilty pleasure”?
What I discovered really surprised me: To my astonishment, a lot of the things other people considered embarrassing or a guilty pleasure were things I indulged in without flinching or feeling any remorse. Conversely, some of the things I felt deeply guilty about were things other people indulged in without any qualms.
And it struck me: feeling guilty about something you find pleasurable is totally subjective. The negative feelings you've attached to the things that bring you pleasure are all in your head…
One Positive Action
The Purpose Pulse
Life has a way of flattening out when you're not paying attention. You look up one day and realize everything feels the same. Work, errands, obligations. Repeat. You're keeping up with everything, but nothing feels exciting anymore.
Here's what usually happens: we stop making room for the things that used to make us feel like ourselves. Not because we don't care, but because they start to feel optional compared to everything else demanding our attention. That hobby gets pushed to the weekend. The weekend comes and you're too tired. Months pass and you've forgotten what it felt like to be genuinely interested in something.
But that feeling doesn't just disappear. It's still there, waiting for you to notice it again. Maybe there's something you keep thinking about learning. Maybe there's a project sitting in the back of your mind that you tell yourself you'll get to eventually. Maybe when you talk about a certain topic, you feel more animated, more present, more you.
That's your purpose pulse. It's not always loud, but it's consistent. And when you ignore it long enough, everything starts to feel a little duller.
The fix isn't complicated. You don't need to overhaul your life or find your "one true calling." You just need to take one small step toward something that actually interests you. Not because it's going to turn into anything, not because it's productive or impressive. Just because it makes you feel more alive.
Grab a piece of paper right now and write down one thing you've been wanting to explore but keep putting off. Then look at your calendar and block out 30 minutes this week to do something about it. Watch a tutorial, order supplies, read an article, sign up for a class, or just mess around with it. See how you feel after. That's your compass.
