You Can Overcome Denial: 5 Thoughtful Ways to get Started
When faced with the reality we did not expect or do not like, it's normal to respond with denial.
When in denial, we ignore the reality and, in some cases, create an alternative set of facts just so that we avoid the anxiety and discomfort that comes with the reality.
In all honesty, the truth is not always easy to accept, so denial is quite common. This defence mechanism might appear effective on the surface, but in reality, it does us more harm than good.
Therefore, we need to work on it.
I'm not suggesting that we entirely get rid of denial. That would be unrealistic as this is a mechanism that comes to us naturally…
This Week’s Healthy Recipe
Vietnamese Iced Coffee for a Boosted Mood and Mental Clarity
From Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnamese iced coffee is easy to come by.
While there are more intricate variations—like the egg coffee, salt coffee, or coconut coffee (all of which are so so good!)—this basic version not only hits the spot, it also gives you a lift when you need it the most.
Plus, it’s super simple to re-create within the comfort of your own home.
In fact, I can’t even tell the difference between Thai iced coffee and Vietnamese iced coffee (I’m unsure if this is blasphemous or not). Both taste the same to me—sweet, bold, and delicious!
One Positive Action
De-clutter your phone
Take a few minutes and look through your phone, since everything “needs” an app these days, I’m sure you’re overloaded with them too. Scroll through and delete any apps you haven’t used in over a month - those random downloads from last summer, that ‘ai’ planner, that program you swore you’d start, but never opened, or games that you don’t need to waste your time with anymore.
Clearing out your digital space can bring a surprising sense of calm and focus.
Think of this as a mini fresh start. By keeping only the apps you actually use and enjoy, you’re cutting down on distractions. BIG bonus points if you delete some of those social media accounts that suck up so much of our time and energy, removing that icon can go a long way in reducing the temptation!
Now, when you swipe through your screen, it’ll feel less like wading through digital noise and more like a purposeful space filled with the things that genuinely serve you.
The best part? This small digital decluttering doesn’t just tidy your phone; it can shift your mindset too. With fewer icons demanding your attention, you might find yourself feeling a little lighter, a little less overwhelmed, a little less tempted.
So go ahead, clear out the clutter, and enjoy the satisfaction of a cleaner, more intentional phone setup!
