What is Grounding? The 5 Helpful Tips & 8 Soothing Benefits

Are you looking for a new way to connect with nature? There are multiple ways you can make that happen - and one of the simplest and most powerful is through grounding.

What is grounding?

A lot of us feel disconnected from our bodies and from the earth in modern society. Grounding or earthing is a way of connecting to the earth by means of walking barefoot on grass, dirt or concrete for at least 10-20 minutes each day to allow for a sufficient electron transfer.

When you walk barefoot, your body basically picks up free ions from the earth's surface, acting as antioxidants for your system. And although this may seem unfamiliar to many, this practice has been prevalent and done in other cultures for thousands of years.

Nature also has a special way of soothing us. When you're feeling stressed, or have just been spending too much time indoors and in front of your screens, getting outside to reconnect with nature is a simple way to soothe your body and soul.

Time Management 101: Save Time, Waste Less Time, & Find More Time

As someone who has worked for themselves for the past six-plus years, I’ve had to become ultra-strategic when it comes to my time management.

Gone are the days when I’d find a million other things to do other than work or get to the end of my day, panicked that I barely made a dent in my to-do list (I get stressed even thinking about those times!).

So, how’d I do it?

Well, it took a bit of trial and error to truly nail down this time management thang, but with a few hacks, I think anyone can do it (Yes, even the most procrastination-prone ones among us!).

Below, I share all my hacks so you can get on track with any and every project you want to get done but, for whatever reason, end up never getting to it…

One Positive Action

The Time Audit

Most people want more time, but very few of us actually look at how we spend the time we already have. We move through our days on autopilot and by the evening, we’re exhausted and unsure of where all of the hours went. We rarely pause long enough to notice what’s draining us and what’s supporting us throughout the day.

Auditting your time sounds intimidating but this version shouldn’t be. It begins with awareness. For one day, pay attention to where your mental and emotional energy goes. Just observe, and be present without judgement or the goal of perfection.

Notice the small pockets of time that slip away without you realizing it. Pay special attention to the habits that are overwhelming you, the things that are fueling you, and even the small repetitive actions you take. Once you can see your patterns clearly, you stop feeling controlled by them, and the awareness will create a shift.

Most people just need to reclaim a small portion of their day, even ten minutes, to feel more grounded and intentional. Those reclaimed minutes will create more relief than hours of forced discipline or attempted perfection ever could.

Spend one day this week simply noticing where your time and energy go. At the end of the day, choose one place where you can reclaim ten minutes, whether by removing a distraction, shortening a task, or stepping away from something that drains you. Small changes will create more space for you than you expect.
