Do You Need A Brain Dump? 8 Ways To Tell & 4 Types To Try
“So far, you’ve survived 100% of your worst days. You’re doing great.” — unknown
Our mind can be our best friend - and our greatest enemy. And sometimes, life can feel a tad overwhelming. You might find yourself spiraling into a pit of anxiety-inducing thoughts to the point that you can’t really think straight.
Sound familiar?
Well, something called a brain dump might help. In fact, writing out your thoughts can help you not only get rid of them but also organize them in a way that makes sense and leads to feelings of calm.
So, how do you even do a brain dump?
What is it exactly…
Emotional Infidelity: 10 Under-the-Radar Signs to Look For
You started off as friends, then became good friends and became extremely close friends.
Then it went from occasionally texting and checking in on each other to constantly texting and having long calls almost every day. You try to spend as much time as possible together and confide in each other with regard to issues you might be dealing with in your relationships or marriages.
Eventually, the lines start to feel a bit blurry.
It starts feeling sort of like a relationship. But you never officially talked about it being a relationship, so could it be a relationship…
One Positive Action
Try the Opposite Day
You probably move through your days following routines you barely notice. Do you always take the same route, follow the same routine getting ready for your day, maybe respond to situations in a familiar way? These patterns feel natural because repetition has turned them automatic, but that doesn’t always mean its effective.
Our brains love efficiency, so once it learns a pattern, it runs it on autopilot. It saves energy but also means you might be living by habits that no longer fit who you are or what you need. You can’t know whether your current way truly works until you try something different, but that can be hard sometimes.
You don’t need to undo and overturn every routine you have established, but sometimes trying the opposite can help us learn new things about ourselves and the world around us. When you deliberately do something differently, you can give yourself the chance to notice what might have been invisible like preferences, limits, or needs you’ve been overlooking.
Once a day this week, pick one small habit and do the opposite. If you usually rush to make your coffee when you wake up, slow down and try doing it meditatively. If you stay quiet in moments of confrontation, speak up and express yourself. If you always multitask, focus on just one thing. Notice what can change when you give yourself permission to approach life differently.
