The 3-Second Pause
You get invited to something outside your routine and your first response is no. Someone shares an idea that challenges your view, and you shut it down without even thinking about it. This reaction happens so fast you might not even notice it, but pause for a moment to look inward.
Are you saying no because it truly doesn’t align with you, or because it feels uncomfortable simply because it’s new? Most of us confuse discomfort with misalignment, but oftentimes, it’s just your brain working harder to process something unfamiliar, and that effort feels uneasy.
Before you dismiss something, take three seconds to pause. In that space, ask yourself: Is this truly not right for me, or just unfamiliar? Sometimes the answer will still be no, and that’s fine, but sometimes, you’ll catch yourself protecting your comfort instead. In those times, it may be time to take a leap and pursue curiousity.
This week, pause for three seconds before saying no. Notice what that hesitation reveals about what you’re resisting, and why. Make sure you know if your rejection comes from a place of clarity or from fear. And who knows? Maybe you’ll find yourself willing to explore something new after all.
