The 6 Basic Human Needs of Personal Development: Are Yours Being Met?

In 2014, Tony Robbins published an article about what he thought were the six basic human needs we all desire.

Whether we realize it or not, all of our actions are based upon these needs. Whatever it is you are doing, you’re doing it to get some sort of human need met.

For example, if you’re working a job, you’re earning money. But why do we need money?

Well, there are many reasons we think we need or want money. However, at the very core needs level, we earn money so we can provide our basic needs of shelter, food, and clothing.

The following are six core human needs, according to Tony Robbins…

One Positive Action

Make your Morning Tea or Coffee a Mindfulness Practice

This is one I can completely get behind: make your morning coffee or tea a mini ritual instead of a rushed routine. You’re probably a lot like me and take your morning coffee while being distracted, at your desk working, driving, maybe herding children…

Instead, start by picking a cozy spot and holding that cup with both hands, feeling its warmth seep in. When you take your first sip, don’t just gulp it down, actually taste it. Notice the flavor, the warmth, the way it feels, all of it. The goal here is to enjoy the heck out of each sip and let it pull you into the present.

This small, easy act can work wonders for helping you unwind. When we slow down like this, we’re telling ourselves it’s okay to pause. Just by focusing on something as simple as the smell and taste of your coffee or tea, you can shake off some stress and find a little calm. It’s like giving yourself permission to breathe, even if it’s just for a couple of minutes.

And who doesn’t need that? With everything moving a mile a minute, this tiny ritual is a reminder to slow down, to appreciate little things, and to let yourself be fully present.

Next time you pour yourself a cup, slow down, focus, and think of it as a small moment to ground yourself and start the day a little more centered.

(we’re not sponsored by big coffee, I swear! although maybe we should be…)
