Healing Your Inner Child: 7 Surprising Ways Play Can Help

When was the last time you let loose and played like a kid?

I’m not talking about structured activities like a workout class or your typical game night—though those are fun too.

I mean the kind of play where you:

  • completely forget about your to-do list

  • laugh so hard your stomach hurts

  • lose track of time because you’re completely in the moment

For most adults, it’s been far too long.

Here’s the thing: play isn’t just for kids.

It’s a powerful tool for healing, especially when it comes to connecting with your inner child—the part of you that still holds the joy, wonder, and sometimes the pain of your younger self…

This Week’s Uplifting Stories

Positively Uplifting Stories | November 25 2024

Hello and welcome to another edition of weekly uplifting stories!

There are times when life seems unfair. There are a lot of things that don't just don't seem to make sense. But one thing is for certain; you’re not alone in feeling like this.

We are all trying our best to navigate life amidst the confusion. Our shared experiences can drive us to help each other and find hope in the midst of darkness.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

This week we bring you four stories that restore our faith in humanity.

One Positive Action

Send a Thank-You Message

If you’re like me, you probably think about saying thank you all the time, but then get distracted by, well, life. Here’s your reminder: take a moment and actually send that thank-you message to someone who’s helped you recently.

Whether it’s a quick text, an email, or even a good old-fashioned card (if you’re feeling fancy), it doesn’t have to be perfect. Just let them know you appreciate what they did.

The best part? It’ll make their day too. Everyone loves a genuine “thanks for being awesome” message. Maybe they helped you move, gave you solid advice, or just listened when you needed to vent about your cat’s ongoing vendetta against your curtains. Whatever it was, acknowledging it makes them feel seen and appreciated.

And let’s not forget: gratitude has this magical boomerang effect. When you take the time to thank someone, you’re reminded of all the good people in your life, and that feels pretty great too. So go ahead, send that message. It takes two minutes, tops, but the good feelings last way longer.

Plus, it’s way easier than paying them back in baked goods or favors. Unless you’re really into baking, in which case, send cookies and the thank-you. Win-win.
