“What Am I Doing With My Life?” Advice, a Helpful Exercise & Getting Started

Most people wonder from time to time, “What am I doing with my life?”

Questions like these swirl around in plenty of minds all over the world.

  • “What is my purpose in life?”

  • “Why am I really here?”

So, if you’re scratching your head wondering, know that you’re definitely not alone.

We’re all here travelling the journey of life.

Some people, for one reason or another, have a better sense of what their purpose is. They know what career brings them fulfillment or what kind of lifestyle brings them contentment. Maybe they’ve known since they were little or simply had an “aha” moment that gave them clarity…

One Positive Action

Note a personal strength

Taking a moment to recognize one of your personal strengths can be a game-changer.

When was the last time you actually paused to think, “I’m really good at this,” or “I love that part of who I am”? Writing down even one quality that makes you proud, whether it’s your kindness, sense of humor, resilience, or creativity, gives you a chance to see yourself in a new, appreciative light.

Acknowledging your strengths can help to shift your focus from any imagined shortcomings to the unique attributes that make you, you.

The next time you face a challenge, remembering your strengths can remind you of what you’re capable of, reinforcing your sense of self-worth. In the long run, it nurtures resilience and motivation; after all, if you’re kind or hardworking, for example, you already possess powerful tools for navigating life’s ups and downs.

By developing a habit of noting your strengths, you’re creating a foundation of positivity and self-compassion to draw upon when needed. Over time, this can transform your inner dialogue into one that’s far more supportive and empowering.

So grab a pen, write down something you genuinely admire about yourself, and see how this small action adds a little extra confidence to your day.
