Why Self-Worth Matters & How You Can Recognize and Improve It

Self-worth is a sensitive topic, and a very important one at that.

After all, the way we think about ourselves plays a gigantic role in how we live our lives, choose our relationships, treat other people, perform at work...the list goes on and on.

Yet, many people, when asked to consider their self-worth will appear confused, or may need a minute to answer.

How about you?

  • Would you say you have a high self-worth?

  • Do you automatically start thinking about all the awesome things you love about yourself?

  • Or do you immediately go to the negative when asked to consider how much you value yourself?

Advice on Adult Bullying: Spot the Types, Know the Effects & 5 Ways To Help

In a world where the dialogue around bullying is often centered on children and schools, the reality of adult bullying remains a less-discussed - yet equally critical issue.

Whether you’re experiencing bullying at work, amongst family, or within friend groups, it all hits the same and can be psychologically damaging.

The hard part is that, as adults, this isn’t entirely something we expect from other adults. Yet, here's a friendly reminder: We can’t control others, but we can control ourselves…

Your Weekend Reset

Ready for a weekly reset? Try a few of these tips to unwind, connect, or get creative. We’ve got you covered to make the most of your downtime!

  • Go for a Drive with No Destination: This is always my go-to to de-stress, or even just when I need some time to think. Pick a direction and just… go. If there’s a windy mountain road, or somewhere I’ve never been, all the better.

Why it works: Something about being in motion without needing to be anywhere helps your brain breathe. It gives you space to think without trying so hard to figure everything out.

  • Visit a Thrift Store with $10 and No Plan: Wander the aisles and see what jumps out. Maybe it’s an old book, a weird lamp, or a scenic painting that has been creatively updated with a dragon. Let yourself be curious embrace something silly and walk out with a new treasure.

Why it works: When you’re not chasing a specific outcome, you actually start to notice more. It pulls you out of your head and into the moment, even if that moment includes a ceramic duck you definitely don’t need.

  • Do Something Low-Tech and Slow: Dig an old puzzle out of the closet and slap it together, missing pieces and all, get a paper and do the crossword, or even just scribble away in a notebook. Just something with your hands, away from screens, moving at a human pace.

Why it works: We spend so much time in fast, reactive mode that slowing down like this feels weird, until it doesn’t. Giving your brain a break from constant input helps reset your focus and energy in ways scrolling never will.

  • Book Recommendation: Endure by Alex Hutchinson - This book digs into what actually limits us when we feel like we’ve hit a wall, whether it’s physical, mental, or emotional. If you’ve ever wondered how much farther you could go if you just didn’t quit so soon, this one’s worth your time.
