3 Simple Ways Rearranging Your Furniture Helps Your Mental Health

Feeling bored with the same ol’ living room?

Are you finding your home set-up is anything but convenient or calming? Well, it might be time to start moving furniture around, aiming to find a new arrangement that works for you and uplifts your mood.

Coco Chanel even once said, “An interior is the natural projection of the soul.”

In other words, if you want to feel rejuvenated and more zen, it might all come down to the space you’re in and how you present yourself…

Out with the Old: Letting Go of Toxic Habits This Spring

Spring isn’t just about sweeping out dust bunnies and opening the windows.

It’s a feeling. A reset. A quiet invitation to let go of what’s heavy and make room for what breathes life back in.

While you’re busy clearing out closets and scrubbing forgotten corners, don’t forget the clutter you can’t see; the kind that lives in your mind.

You know the stuff.

  • The habit of putting things off until panic sets in.

  • The endless “yes” when you really mean “no.”

  • That voice in your head that whispers you're not enough.

These mental mess-makers might be familiar, but that doesn’t mean they belong in your life…

Your Weekend Reset

Ready for a weekly reset? Try a few of these tips to unwind, connect, or get creative. We’ve got you covered to make the most of your downtime!

  • Have a conversation with a stranger: It’s drilled into us at a young age to never talk to strangers, so maybe this one might spark up some anxiety, but in the end, it can be worth it. If you’re especially nervous, compliment someone's dog and ask about them, pet owners will always open up about their little friends. As a bonus, you’ll likely also get to pet them! (the dog, not the owner) We're so used to moving through the world with our heads down that we forget how energizing it can be to connect with someone new, even briefly. Most people are kinder than we expect, and happy to talk.

  • Write a letter to someone you miss: Not a text, not an email, an actual handwritten letter. Pick someone you've been thinking about but haven't talked to in a while. Tell them what you've been up to, what reminded you of them, maybe a memory you both share. You don't even have to send it if you don't want to, but there's something about putting pen to paper that makes thoughts feel more real, more intentional. If you do end up sending it, think about the joy (or perhaps bewilderment) your recipient will feel when they get it!

  • Make something with your hands: If you’re one of the so many of us these days that work from home on a laptop, or in an office, doing something actually physically productive with your hands just hits different. It doesn't matter what it is. Knead some bread dough, sketch something terrible, build a little fort out of couch cushions, rearrange your bookshelf. The point is to create something tangible, something you can point to and say "I made that." In a world where so much of our work feels abstract, there's real satisfaction in making something you can touch.

  • Book Recommendation: Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer - Part memoir, part nature writing, part indigenous wisdom. Kimmerer writes about the relationship between humans and the natural world in a way that's both scientific and deeply spiritual. It'll make you look at plants, trees, even weeds differently. Perfect for anyone who wants to feel more connected to the world around them.
