The Victor and Victim Mindset & How to Flip the Script to Take Back Control
We are all subject to life's inevitable harsh conditions and challenges.
It could be the weather, culture, gender stereotypes, or genetic predispositions, to mention a few. Hence, we are all faced with a myriad of impediments, yet what differentiates us – and the quality of life we ultimately lead – is our mindset.
We are all driven by a mindset - a collection of thoughts and beliefs (acquired over time) that shape our habits and actions. It dictates how we perceive and approach the world around us - how we think, feel, and (re)act in any given situation.
Consequently, it determines the kind of result we attain, and how far we go in life…
This Week’s Healthy Recipe
Creamy Salmon Casserole for Your Brain (and Soul)
Sometimes, the best medicine can be found in our food itself.
Casseroles come together with minimal effort (and make plenty of portions for leftovers!). Whether you’re a fan of salmon, or not, you’re going to love this one.
In fact, if you hate salmon, this recipe disguises it for the most part, helping you get all those brain-supporting nutrients that this fish has to offer without the potentially overpowering flavor.
Personally, I love salmon. But sometimes, a casserole is exactly the comforting type of food I need…
One Positive Action
The power of positivity, the No Complaints Challenge!
It’s very, very easy to complain, I should know, I do it all the time. That’s why this challenge is so fun. The next time you get thrown a curve-ball or things don’t go your way, don’t complain! Take a second, breathe, and reframe how you think about it. Blew a tire and are going to be late for work? Normally, I’d be mad, I’d swear, I’d stress out, but under the No Complaints Challenge? What luck! I’m in for an adventure, and am going to meet some helpful people!
When things go wrong, complaining can be almost automatic. In fact, it’s even a little addictive, before you know it, you’re complaining about everything. You just dig yourself deeper into that hole of negativity. It’s like you're making your day worse just by getting stuck in that loop. But when you stop, breathe, and find a way to see it differently, you break that cycle.
You know those moments when you catch yourself about to vent about something small, like a long line at the coffee shop or running into traffic? That’s your cue. Instead of going down that road, stop for a second, take a breath, and think about it differently. Maybe that traffic is time to practice your air drumming to your favorite song? Or maybe that annoying line waiting for coffee is just an extra few minutes to take a breath and notice the world around you, I bet you can find something beautiful. You want to break that knee-jerk reaction to vent.
So, today, no complaints. None. Every time you catch yourself starting to whine about something, take a second, take ten if you need it, and reframe it. You can even make yourself a complaints jar. Every time you catch yourself complaining, add a dollar. At the end of the day, (hopefully your jar is empty!) but if not, treat yourself. Make your no complaining day fun! And as you sit on a park bench eating your hard earned ice cream cone, reflect on how much lighter you feel, not because you went complaint free (you are eating an ice cream your complaints bought), but because you chose to handle it differently. This challenge is small, but it can make a big difference in how you move through your day.
