Understanding the Art of Elevating Others & 9 Ways to Start
Written by: Tatenda
In this era of self-development and self-elevation, it is easy to focus on ourselves and ignore everyone around us.
In some instances, we might even treat everyone else as competition.
Many of us are stuck in a hamster wheel, and every day we are chasing perfection and improvement. Consequently, we fail to realize that as humans, we aren’t solitary beings. Our interactions with others play a huge role in our overall purpose and the meaning of our lives.
Aristotle wrote that finding happiness and fulfilment is achieved “by loving rather than in being loved.”
Elevating others is a noble endeavor that seemingly empowers the individual on the receiving end, but indirectly also enriches the person doing the elevating. Being kind, helpful and supportive to others helps benefit us in…
How to Speak Up & Say What You Want: You Don't Have to Be Silent!
Written by: Dominica
Throughout our lives, it’s inevitable that we will face difficult circumstances - and challenging people.
Life will not always go as planned and people will not always act like we want them to. That’s just the way it goes.
I think that as we grow personally, it is important to learn how to speak up for ourselves and hold our ground when boundaries are crossed, or we are facing fear.
I also believe people ought to feel empowered and confident. There will most likely be someone in your life periodically telling you what you can and cannot do.
If this rubs you the wrong way, you need to know how to stand up for yourself and say, “Whoa Nellie. Back the control truck up. This is not ok with me.”…
Living Well, As You Are
"It’s Okay to Enjoy This"
I used to move the bar without realizing I was doing it.
Something would go well, and I would immediately look for what needed attention next. A calm day would open up, and I would find a way to fill it. If things felt steady, I would question it, as if I had missed something important.
Maybe you do that too.
You tell yourself you’ll relax once everything is handled. You think you’ll feel settled when things are fully in place, but that point never really arrives. There is always something else you could improve, fix, or prepare for.
I didn’t see the problem at first.
It looked responsible. It felt like I was staying on top of my life. But over time, I started to notice what it was actually doing. I was constantly stepping out of my own experience. Even when things were good, I wasn’t fully there for them.
That creates a strange feeling.
Nothing is clearly wrong, but you don’t feel at ease. You move through your life, but you don’t quite settle into it. You keep thinking ahead, adjusting, preparing, without ever letting anything land.
I had to learn this the slow way.
When something felt good, I started paying attention to what I did next. Almost every time, I would interrupt it. I would analyze it, or shift my focus, or look for the next thing to handle. I didn’t let the moment stay as it was.
Now I try something different.
When a moment feels steady, I stay with it a little longer. I notice the urge to move on, and I don’t follow it right away. I take a breath. I let the moment continue without improving it.
You can do the same.
When things are fine, let them be fine. You don’t need to add anything. You don’t need to make it more productive. You don’t need to prepare for what might come next.
That habit takes time to change.
Your mind will still try to pull you forward. It will remind you of what’s unfinished. It will suggest something more useful to do. That doesn’t mean you need to listen.
You can choose to stay.
I’ve found that this is where things start to shift. You feel more present. You notice more. You begin to trust that a good moment doesn’t need to be managed.
It can just exist.
You don’t have to wait until everything is perfect.
You can let your life feel good while it’s still in progress.
