8 Important Ways You Can Start to Nurture Your Friendships
Like seasons of life, friendships can blossom and wane.
And as you get older, you might find it harder to make new adult friends. Unlike during the years of school, there simply is less opportunity to do so. Yet, this doesn’t mean it's impossible!
At the same time, maybe it’s worthwhile nurturing your existing friendships. Long-term friendships can enhance your life like no other, offering you a sense of belonging, support, and loads of reasons for happiness and joy.
So… if you’re feeling as though you’re drifting away from your friends or you’re struggling to reconnect, don’t worry. We have got you covered…
Imagine spending years—maybe even decades—feeling like something is just off.
You struggle with focus, organization, and time management, but no matter how hard you try, traditional advice never seems to work. People call you forgetful, scatterbrained, or lazy, and eventually, you start believing it yourself. Then one day, seemingly out of nowhere, you hear three words that change everything:
You have ADHD.
For many adults, an ADHD diagnosis comes as a revelation—finally, an explanation for the lifelong challenges they couldn’t quite put into words. But along with that relief often comes grief. Years of self-blame, missed opportunities, and silent struggles suddenly make sense, but they also raise a painful question:
What if I had known sooner?…
One Positive Action
Start with fun!
Most people think motivation comes before action, but the truth is, action creates motivation. And the fastest way to get yourself moving? Start with something fun! If you can make the first step enjoyable, you bypass the resistance, the excuses, the hesitation. Your brain stops seeing it as a chore and starts engaging with it willingly. Instead of forcing yourself through sheer willpower, you’re leveraging momentum.
Think about it, how much easier is it to work out when you start with a song that pumps you up? How much smoother is a big project when you begin with the most interesting part? This is how you hack your own mind. Find a way to make the first step enjoyable, even if it’s small. If you need to clean, put on your favorite music. If you need to write, start with the idea that excites you most. If you’re tackling a tough challenge, begin with the part that sparks your curiosity.
Once you’re in motion, everything gets easier. The hardest part is starting, but when you associate the beginning with enjoyment instead of struggle, you remove the biggest obstacle: your own resistance. Success isn’t about forcing yourself through misery. It’s about mastering your state, making the process work for you.
So the next time you need to tackle something big, don’t just dive in, make the first step something that pulls you in. That’s how you create momentum that lasts.
