Breaking the Procrastination Cycle: The Power of Small Actions
We’ve all been there - staring at a task we know we need to do, but somehow, we just can’t bring ourselves to start.
Instead, we scroll through social media, clean the kitchen, or convince ourselves we’ll feel more "ready" later. But later comes, and the cycle repeats.
Procrastination isn’t just about being lazy or undisciplined. More often than not, it’s an emotional response—our brain’s way of avoiding discomfort.
Interestingly, research shows that we don’t procrastinate because we’re bad at managing time; we do it because we’re trying to manage our mood…
Borrowing Bravery: How to Use Your Alter Ego to Overcome Fear
Fear has a sneaky way of holding us back, doesn’t it?
It whispers quietly, convincing us we're not good enough, ready enough, or brave enough to step forward. You know the feeling:
your heart races
your palms sweat
Suddenly, avoiding the thing you're scared of feels way more appealing than facing it.
Trust me, we've all been there…
One Positive Action
Set up a Vision Board:
If you’ve never made a vision board before, it’s not just cutting out pretty pictures and hoping for the best. You’re getting honest with yourself about what you really want. No filters, no “shoulds,” just a raw and real look at what lights you up. And there’s something powerful about putting those dreams right in front of you, where you can’t ignore them.
A vision board of course isn’t magic, but it is a fun tool that keeps your focus on what matters. Life pulls us in a hundred different directions, and it’s easy to lose sight of our deeper goals in the middle of daily stress. But when you have a physical (or digital, but seriously, a physical board works so much better) reminder of what you’re working toward, it helps you stay grounded in your purpose. It’s a way of saying, This is what I care about. This is where I’m headed.
And let’s be real, dreaming is vulnerable. Naming what you want, putting it out there, even just to yourself, can feel scary. But vulnerability is also where courage lives. When you give yourself permission to dream, to want something bigger, you’re already taking a step toward it. A vision board isn’t just about the outcome, it’s about who you’re becoming in the process.
So grab some magazines, a Pinterest board, whatever works for you. Let yourself dream without judgment. And then, keep that board where you can see it. Not as a passive wish list, but as a reminder that you are worthy of the life you’re building, one brave step at a time. You can even be extra brave, and share it with a friend.
