Need Better Communication Skills? 10 Simple Tips to Help You Practice
I think most of us can agree that relationships are not always smooth sailing.
Some are great, some are mediocre, and some are just plain terrible. There are many reasons and many factors that play a role, but a lack of communication skills is a really common reason.
You’ve got people who don’t like to talk about issues, are afraid to express their feelings, pretend there are no issues, scream about their issues.
Then when some do communicate about an issue, they’re using negative resolution skills like the silent treatment, or the “I’m out of here”, slamming the door treatment.…
What is Kensho? The Zen Practice of Seeing Your True Nature
Do you ever feel like you just need your world shaken up a bit?
Sometimes, this can indicate you need some kind of realization or enlightenment in your life. Maybe things have been kind of dull and mundane, or you generally feel “stuck.”
Or perhaps you’ve recently undergone a big life change, or maybe you’ve been on your own personal development journey for quite some time.

Kensho literally translates to “seeing nature.” In other words, it’s about seeing one’s true nature.

Childhood Echo: Inherited Patterns That Shape Us
Have you ever caught yourself saying something or reacted in a situation and thought, “Wow… that sounded just like my mom”? Or noticed you deal with stress the same way your dad does? It’s because a lot of how we act and process emotions comes from the people who raised us or had an impact in our life.
As kids, we learned how to survive, interact, connect, and navigate life by copying those closest to us. We picked up their habits, ways of expressing love, handling conflict, and reacting to life by watching and learning. These patterns get wired into us that we often don’t realize we’re repeating them.
We might believe they are part of our nature, and it is beyond us to control, but we always have a choice. Some traits are often an honor to carry on, like your grandma’s patience or your dad’s work-ethic. Other traits might be harder to let go of, like people-pleasing or avoiding confrontation in tough situations.
Take a moment to reflect on your automatic responses and behaviors. Identify one specific habit, reaction, or pattern that you recognize from a parent or close caregiver. Recognizing the pattern breaks its unconscious hold over you and opens the door to gradual, intentional evolution. You always have choice of what stays and what evolves.
