The Art of Rising: Resilience After Divorce or Heartbreak

Breakups can be brutal. Whether it ended in a whisper or a wildfire, the emotional fallout can leave you dazed, hollow, and wondering if you’ll ever feel normal again.

One minute you're fine, scrolling playlists and eating ice cream straight from the carton; the next, you're crying in the shower because a darn shampoo scent reminds you of them.

But here’s what no one tells you when the relationship unravels: this moment - this raw, wrecked, wide-open space - is where your resilience is born…

What's Equanimity? 6 Ways You Can Practice the Art of Calm Composure

Over the past few years, we’ve all been through the wringer. It’s been one heck of a rollercoaster ride, to say the least. Feelings of anxiety and fear were heightened. Basically, most of us felt anything but calm. And the more we hear about what's happening in the world, it can be hard to quell these feelings of anxiety and fear.

If this sounds like you, maybe you need to learn a little bit more about equanimity!

Equanimity embraces a state of psychological calm. In fact, cultivating this state can help you emulate calmness, maintaining your composure…

What I’m Unlearning

That confidence means never doubting yourself.

Why do we think that at some point in life, we’ll achieve this Boss Level of confidence where we just never doubt ourselves or our abilities again? Does that sound realistic?

Would it be great to never doubt yourself again? Anxiety and crippling Imposter Syndrome aside, I actually don’t think so - and this is our Unlearning Moment for the week. You can definitely agree or disagree!

Confidence isn’t never doubting yourself, blindly believing you can do anything - that’s arrogance. In Arroganceville, you don’t question anything because you are the master of all and only fools would challenge your superiority. But from the arrogant people I’ve observed, they lack humility, and make rash decisions to back up their bluster.

True confidence to me is having the humility to recognize that you absolutely do not know everything - and you’re okay with that. I’ve noticed these people being open to learning and improving and they seem to believe in themselves:

A. Without worrying about what people will think.

B. Because whatever they’re doing, they trust themselves to figure it out.

And going back to the never doubting yourself part - sometimes doubt is GOOD. Doubt comes from feeling self-conscious or being afraid of change - and those things can actually help you stop, question what you’re doing, and help you think through decisions instead of rushing in and doing something blustery and thoughtless.

Confidence is hearing your Inner Critic, considering their warning for what it is, adjusting your sails, and going for it anyway. Because real confidence comes from trusting yourself, knowing that you’ll figure out what to do and how to handle yourself, and you don’t have to pretend anything.

Do you agree or disagree? Does having confidence mean you never doubt yourself?  We’d love to hear your story! Simply reply to this email and we might feature your experience in an upcoming newsletter.
