5 Ways to Fall in Love With Yourself Again After a Breakup
“How you love yourself is how you teach others to love you.” – Rupi Kaur
When in a relationship, we get so used to having someone love us that we sometimes forget to love ourselves.
Consequently, when the relationship ends, we feel like we have lost the only person who loved us.
But we forget - that we are capable of showing ourselves the love we deserve.
When relationships end, it's easy to go into a downward spiral of exploring everything we think is wrong with us and convince ourselves that we are the reason the relationship ended. And that we don’t deserve love.
Sadly, that is not healthy.
Yes, we can be sad about a breakup, but we should also focus on loving ourselves more.
If you are one of those people who had forgotten how to love themselves, this article is for you…
Come Home to Yourself
"Staying Home With Myself"
By the end of January, something subtle always shifts. The noise of the new year has quieted, the pressure of intentions and making big changes has softened. What is left by the time January ends is simple a stable desire to remain present.
I’m noticing how easy it is, once the busyness returns, to drift away from myself again. There’s a desire to fill space quickly, say yes without thinking, or speed up in life.
Coming home to yourself isn’t a one-time event isn’t something you do at the beginning of the year and then move on from. It needs to be something you practice consistently, especially when life tugs at you.
Over the last few weeks, I’ve slowed my pace, and gathered my energy back from places it was being drained. I’ve started listening to my heart instead of looking for confirmation everywhere else. It’s changed how grounded I feel moving forward.
What I’m learning now is this: staying home with yourself requires true presence. You must notice when you start abandoning your own needs out of habit, and catch the moments when you override your instincts to make things easy. You need to be intentional on making aligned choices.
There’s a version of productivity that pulls you away from yourself, and there’s a version of living that keeps you rooted. I’m choosing the second one, even when it feels slower, even when it feels less impressive.
As January comes to a close, I’m not asking myself what I want to accomplish next. I’m asking something gentler:
What helps me stay connected to myself?
What pulls me away?
What do I need to return to when I start drifting?
Coming home to yourself doesn’t end when January comes to a close. It’s something you carry into conversations, decisions, and ordinary days. It’s the quiet choice to stay present instead of performing.
You don’t need to reinvent yourself, just stay close to the version you are deep down.
