One Positive Action

Stay With Discomfort

Discomfort isn’t the problem, but our constant need to run from it is. When something feels awkward, tense, or emotionally uncomfortable, we react instantly. We distract ourselves, explain too much, change the subject, check our phone, or shut down. Over time, this teaches your brain that discomfort is something to avoid at all costs, even when it is harmless or temporary.

Staying with discomfort for sixty seconds builds tolerance, teaching your nervous system that you can feel something unpleasant without it being dangerous or overwhelming. Resilience is formed this way; through staying present.

When you stop trying to make discomfort disappear, it will soften on its own. You will become more confidence instead of being uncomfortable, and you’ll grow in your tolerance and resilience.

Today, when something feels awkward, uncomfortable, or emotionally tense, pause. Set a mental timer for sixty seconds. Breathe slowly and stay present without fixing, distracting, or explaining. After one minute, choose what to do next and notice how often the urge to escape passes when you simply give it time.
