Are You a Highly Sensitive Person? 8 Valuable Tips to Help You Live as an HSP
“You’re too sensitive! You feel way too much!”
If you’ve ever heard that from someone, then you may be interested in learning what it really means to be a highly sensitive person (HSP).
Let me start by saying being sensitive is not a negative trait. If others have belittled you for feeling “too much” or being “too emotional”, know that their perceptions were skewed. They may have been downright rude in judging you.
The term “highly sensitive person” was coined by Elaine Aron, a psychologist who has done a lot of research on the topic. She describes HSP’s as having higher “sensory-processing sensitivity” (SPS). Essentially, this means that it’s not a “personality flaw”. It’s actually a biology factor…

One Positive Action
Write the Backup Plan
Most plans don’t fall apart because of lack of motivation, but because life shows up. You get tired, your mood changes, you’re running late. One disruption turns into abandoning the whole effort, because you did not plan for reality.
A backup plan is the acceptance of reality. Instead of assuming everything will go smoothly, you acknowledge that there is one predictable point where things usually derail. You already know what tends to knock you off course, so pretending it won’t happen only sets you up to start over again and again.
A backup plan is simple and specific, like this: “If this happens, I will do this.”
This works because it removes decision-making in the moment. When things go sideways, your brain doesn’t have to figure out what to do next because you already decided.
Choose one area of your life that often gets derailed. Write one sentence that follows this structure: “If this happens, I will do this.” Keep it realistic and easy to follow, then trust that when the disruption comes, you already know what to do.
