You Need a Mental Vacation: 7 Fast Ways to Refresh

Our world continues to move faster and faster.

But despite all the modern improvements that were supposed to make our lives easier, we still seem to be getting more stressed, overwhelmed and anxious.

True, technology has made a lot of difficult jobs easier, and has created more time; but what have we done with the time it afforded us?

We added more work to it.

The excuse many of us tell ourselves is that we have to work harder so we can afford a vacation before we can get away from all the work.

We complain of not having the money nor time for a vacation, so we won’t hit pause. And so the cycle continues.

But vacations don’t always have to cost a fortune, nor do they have to take a lot of time.

You can take a mental vacation for free, and be in and out of it in just 15 minutes

30 New Hobbies List: Lower Stress & Boost Your Confidence

Hobbies aren’t just something to do to fill time.

They can:

  • foster creativity

  • help you make new friends

  • expand your mind (and your brain cells)

  • and even improve your confidence

Think about this:

When was a moment that you completely lost track of time because you were so immersed in the activity at hand?

My guess is that it was some kind of passion hobby.

But maybe you’ve lost your way. The pandemic happened… Life happened… Years went by… You aren’t really sure what you “like” anymore. And that’s okay. We’re here to help. Whether you're seeking a creative outlet, a physical challenge, or a way to unwind, there's a hobby out there for everyone.

In this article, we offer up the ultimate hobbies list—30 different hobbies to be exact—each offering its unique benefits and joys. In other words, you're sure to find something that resonates with your personal interests and lifestyle.

One Positive Action

Name the Non-Negotiable

Naming the non-negotiables in your life brings your values out of theory and into true practice. They tend to get treated like big abstract ideas, typically only proven in major moments. But in reality, they guide your every move. When you don’t have a firm foundation of what your values are, they tend to be the first thing to be compromised.

When you are firm in your values, it makes life simpler. You know what matters most to you, and every decision in life comes with less worry and overthinking. You can ask, “Does this support or undermine what I said was important?” If it undermines it, the answer becomes clearer.

You do not need to restructure your life around your values today, just try your best to truly honor it once today. Practicing living out our values proves to our brain that they aren’t just ideas and instead a way of life.

Write down one value you are unwilling to trade today. Choose one decision, however small, where you will let that value guide you. Maybe you’ll work harder to be kind to someone today. Perhaps you’ll find someone who needs a helping hand. Regardless of what your value is, take notice and honour the feeling that comes from living a life that is true to who you are at heart.
