Your Brain Is a Muscle: Here's How to Train It for Peak Performance

You wouldn't expect to run a marathon without training, right?

Or bench press 200 pounds on your first day at the gym? Of course not.

Yet somehow, we expect our brains to perform at peak capacity without ever giving them a proper workout. Here's what most people miss: your brain operates exactly like a muscle.

It gets stronger when you challenge it, weaker when you don't use it, and can be trained to do incredible things you never thought possible.

Mel Robbins’ Let Them Theory: 8 Takeaways for Everyday Life

We’ve all been there… where you’re lying awake at 2 am, replaying that awkward conversation and going over the things you maybe shouldn’t have said…

Or perhaps your friend hasn’t texted you back—are they mad at you?

Maybe your mom made that comment yet again.

Or your coworker’s attitude is really starting to get to you and wear you down.

Oof, life can really pile up, can’t it?

At times, it can feel like everything around us is crashing down and caving in. The anxiety can be paralyzing. Yet, one simple mindset shift could really alter how we view ourselves and these external forces around us…

One Positive Action

Protect With Rest

Rest is one of the first things to slip when life feels demanding. The mind pushes for more even when energy is running low. Over time, that constant push creates tension, irritability, and mental fog that no amount of willpower can override.

Prioritizing rest is about choosing steadiness. When the nervous system has room to settle, your mental clarity returns. Decisions will come easier, your emotions will become more manageable and so many other improvements. Just taking small pauses helps the body shift from survival mode into being more grounded.

Rest is not earned at the end of a to-do list. It requires a daily practice of noticing when the nervous system is tensing and choosing to reset before everything spills over. It only asks for intention: a moment between your tasks, slowing down during transitions, or a few minutes without stimulation.

Choose one way to prioritize rest today. Don’t treat it as a reward for when all the work is done, but instead, approach it as the work to sustain you, like eating, or drinking water. Examine how you can approach this with consistency, and let it heal you.
