One Positive Action
Switch Your Perspective
Sometimes, when life throws you a curveball, the best move isn’t to swing, it’s to step back and see the pitch from someone else’s perspective. Seriously, think about whatever challenge is bugging you right now and imagine what your best friend, your mom, or even that one overly chatty coworker would say about it. What advice would they throw your way?
It’s funny how easy it is to dish out great advice to other people, but when it comes to our own problems, we’re suddenly the world's worst life coach. Switching perspectives can cut through the noise in your head. Your friend might say, “Stop overthinking and just start!” or your mom might hit you with her classic, “You’re stronger than this.” That outside point of view can sometimes be the exact clarity you’re missing.
Now, if imagining someone else’s advice isn’t doing the trick, get creative. Think “What would my future, calmer self think about this mess?” Spoiler: Future You is probably shaking their head and telling you to relax because it all works out in the end, mountains out of molehills, and all of that.
It doesn’t have to be perfect or profound. The act of stepping out of your own head and seeing the situation from another angle is usually enough to shift things. You might even realize the advice you’d give someone else is exactly what you need to hear right now.
