5 Life Changing Japanese Philosophies You Need to Try

Whenever I talk to people about philosophies and principles I become fascinated.

There are endless sources of wisdom out there and lately, many Japanese views are at the top of my interest. Having read a bit about them, and as you can probably guess, there is a lot of material to cover.

It would take more than a lifetime to know all that is there to know about Japanese philosophies. However, a few have stood out to me:

  • Ikigai - finding your purpose

  • Kaizen - continuous improvement

  • Hara hachi - eat until your are 80% full

  • Shoshin - approach every task with the curiosity and enthusiasm of a beginner

  • Wabi-sabi - embracing imperfection

Chocolate Date Bark: Healthy, Happy & Sweet

So, I’ve been seeing this Chocolate Date Bark recipe floating around reels and TikToks, and I have to say… it lives up to the hype!

Plus, if you haven’t heard, dates and chocolate do tons of good for your mental health.

One Positive Action

“Touch Grass”

If you’re reading this on Christmas, consider this your sign to step away from the chaos for a moment. Whether it’s wrapping paper everywhere or the inevitable family debates over how to carve the turkey, taking a quick breather outside might be exactly what you need. Go find a tree, a plant, or even a patch of grass, and just... touch it. Yeah, I know it sounds a bit out there, but trust me, there’s something grounding about connecting with nature, even for a second.

While you’re out there, maybe take a moment to appreciate what that tree or plant is doing for you. It's giving you oxygen, cleaning the air, and just existing quietly while the rest of us rush around trying to outdo ourselves. If saying "thank you" to a tree feels too weird, maybe just think it. No one has to know, and it’s a nice reminder that the world doesn’t run on holiday stress or gift receipts.

This little nature moment doesn’t need to be long. Five minutes outside can work wonders to clear your head. You might notice the way the winter light hits the branches, or how crisp the air feels, and suddenly you’re not just stuck in the swirl of everything.

So, between the gift exchanges and the food comas, give it a shot. Step outside, ground yourself, and maybe even let a little gratitude sneak in. Because if a tree can quietly handle the weight of the world, surely we can manage a holiday with a little more ease.
