6 Effortless Ways to Trick Yourself Into Being Motivated
“I just don’t feel motivated.” Sound familiar?
We’ve all been there. Maybe it’s motivation to get to the gym or finally finish that school or work project. We wait for that motivation to hit. But it never comes. Then, we never make it to the gym, and we end up waiting until the last possible moment to complete that project. Not exactly what we intended.
John C. Maxwell has stated, “Motivation gets you going, but discipline keeps you growing.”
The truth is that motivation won’t always be there for us (as much as we wish it were!).
So, what does this mean?
One Positive Action
5 Senses Reset
Sometimes stress can just sneak up on you, you feel overwhelmed, and your just can’t think straight. When that happens, try hitting pause with a “5 Senses Reset.” It’s simple, it’s grounding, and honestly, it just works. The idea is to pull yourself out of the noise in your head and plant yourself firmly in the here and now.
Start with smell. Grab a candle, coffee beans, or even the fabric softener on your laundry. Inhale something pleasant and let it remind you that not everything has to feel chaotic. Next, let your eyes rest on something beautiful. Maybe it’s a plant, the way the light hits your wall, or your dog’s goofy little face. The point is to find one thing worth noticing.
Taste comes next. It doesn’t matter if it’s a piece of chocolate, a juicy slice of fruit, or a spoonful of peanut butter straight from the jar (no judgment, to be honest, this is my jam… ha.). Let yourself actually enjoy it instead of rushing through it. For touch, run your fingers over a soft blanket, a smooth rock, or anything comforting. Finally, tune into a sound that soothes you, whether it’s music, birds chirping, or just silence.
This whole thing doesn’t take long, but it’s like giving yourself a little reset. It reminds you that while stress might take over, it’s not the only thing out there. Life’s still full of small, good things, sometimes you just have to slow down and notice them.
