6 Beginner Meditation Retreats You Definitely Want to Try

Modern research demonstrates that this ancient practice can:

  • reduce stress

  • improve focus

  • boost mood

  • support physical health

It’s no wonder it’s become so popular in recent years, with new apps and teachers making it easier than ever to learn and practice from anywhere.

However, starting any new habit can be a tough hurdle to overcome. But immersion is arguably one of the best ways to break through this barrier. This is where meditation retreats can offer a bridge to building a daily meditation habit.

After all, Buddha once said,

“The mind is everything. What you think you become.”

So, what meditation retreat is ideal for beginners?

This Week’s Mental Health Recipe

Mediterranean Chickpea Salad

A Mediterranean Chickpea Salad for a Happier Mind

Fresh, flavorful, and surprisingly powerful for your mind—this Mediterranean Chickpea Salad is more than just a light lunch!

Packed with nutrient-dense ingredients like protein-rich chickpeas, hydrating cucumber, and antioxidant-rich tomatoes, it delivers a colorful boost for both your plate and your mental well-being. In fact, I’ve been making this every week for lunch recently, and am loving it!

There’s no doubt about it: Research shows that the Mediterranean diet is linked to better mood, sharper thinking, and a reduced risk of depression—and this salad captures those brain-boosting benefits in every bite. It makes a great lunch all by itself; but it also works well as a side with chicken or fish (My personal favorite is having it on the side with baked salmon!).

So, let’s dig into how to make this ultra-simple salad and why…

One Positive Action

Detach the Label

We easily blur the line between what we're going through and who we are. We say things like "I'm anxious," or "I'm a failure," and without realizing it, we've made the problem part of our identity. But you are not your problems; you're simply someone experiencing them. That small shift in language can make all the difference in how heavy life feels.

When you call yourself the problem, you trap yourself inside it. When you label it as an experience, you create space. Suddenly, it's not "I am anxious," but "I'm experiencing anxiety right now." That distance doesn't erase the challenge, but it makes it easier to work through. You move from being defined by the problem to being the person who has the power to navigate it.

This practice builds resilience, reduces shame, and reminds you that challenges are temporary states, rather than permanent definitions. Over time, it strengthens your ability to see yourself with compassion rather than criticism, which is the foundation of real growth. Problems become things you face, not things you are. You start to recognize that you're bigger, stronger, and far more complex than any single difficulty you're navigating.

Today, write down one problem you're carrying. Then, underneath it, write: "This is something I'm experiencing, not who I am." Let that sentence be your reminder that you have the power to work through challenges without letting them define who you are as a person.
