Build Energy by Saying No: The Hidden Cost of People-Pleasing
Have you ever found yourself saying “yes” when every fiber of your being is whispering no? Maybe it's a favor you don't have time for. A meeting you didn’t want to join. A commitment you’re too tired to keep, but you smile and agree anyway. Because… you don’t want to let anyone down.
It seems harmless, right? Just being kind, helpful, agreeable. But over time, those little yeses, especially the ones you don’t mean, start to stack up. They chip away at your energy, your time, your peace. And before you know it, you're running on fumes, wondering why you're always tired, scattered, or just plain resentful.
This post is for the people-pleasers, the over-givers, the “sure, I can do that” crew. Not to call you out, but to call you back. Back to your center. Because every “no” you learn to say isn’t just a boundary - it’s a portal back to your power. And trust me, your energy is too sacred to be spent on things that drain you.
6 Calming Anxiety Techniques to Beat the Panic in 5 Minutes or Less
Most of us have experienced anxiety at least once.
That could have been before waking up to talk to someone, an interview or a presentation. Sometimes just thinking of your responsibilities and to-do list can trigger anxiety.
Sadly, in most cases, the more anxious we are, the worse we perform. Dealing with anxiety can be frustrating as sometimes it feels like you do not have control over your thoughts.
That is why it is important for us to master techniques to deal with anxiety both immediately and in the long term!
6 Ways to Cope With Stress in Less Than Five Minutes
1. Breathe.
When we are anxious, our heart rate increases, and in some cases, we even start sweating a bit.
The increased heart rate can be slowed down by taking deep breaths. Whenever I am anxious…
One Positive Action
Digital Door Close
Phones are like open doors allowing anyone to walk right in, entering our personal time and emotional space. I used to think I was pretty good at managing distractions until I realized that my phone was going off almost constantly. Every notification was a pulling my attention away from whatever I was doing. You might think you’re only losing a second, but I’ve come to realize that each and every interruption costs far more than that. It takes your brain several minutes to fully refocus, meaning those constant alerts are quietly stealing huge amounts of time and energy all day long.
This is why implementing a Digital Door Close exercise has become so impactful in my life. Turn off the group chats, app updates, social media notifications and promotional emails. Leave the true essentials; calls from family, urgent messages. Close the door to everything else. By doing this, you can truly protect your focus and mental health, and give your brain permission to dive deeper into the present day without constantly awaiting the next notification.
The benefits start almost immediately, and they’re pretty remarkable. You’ll feel calmer, think clearer, and get more done in less time. Without the constant background noise of anxiety inducing alerts, your brain gets to settle deeper into the task at hand. I know that I have been amazed with how much more meaningful work I am able to complete when I allow myself the space to breathe without my phone constantly pulling me away. And even when I check my phone later on, I am able to do it intentionally, rather than doing it out of demand. The shift from reactive to intentional will allow you to feel free.
Right now, take 60 seconds to open your phone settings and silence non-essential notifications for the next two hours. Use that time to focus on something important, creative, or restorative. Finish the project you haven’t had time for, setting into a deep focus for work, or allow yourself a meditative minute to breathe and relax. When the two hours are up, notice and reflect on how much you were able to accomplish or even just how much lighter you feel. You may even find yourself wanting to keep the digital door closed a little bit longer.
